Alvaro Betancourt joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2017 as an engineer. Betancourt has extensive experience performing reserves and resources evaluations in accordance with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Petroleum Resource Management System (PRMS) in various conventional and unconventional fields in the United States and other countries around the world. These evaluations include several low/ultra-low permeability reservoirs, secondary oil recovery operations (waterfloods and steamfloods), and tertiary carbon dioxide-enhanced oil recovery for independent and publicly traded oil and gas companies.

Alvaro Betancourt’s geographical areas of expertise encompass the North Slope of Alaska, the San Joaquin Basin and coastal region of California, Texas and the southeastern United States, Canada, Argentina, Ecuador, Russia, and the Middle East.

In addition, he has worked with interdisciplinary teams to perform technical studies in different unconventional plays around the United States, Argentina, and the Middle East. These studies include completion optimization, reservoir modeling, well performance analysis, and forecasting.

He specializes in well performance and decline-curve analysis, production forecasting in conventional (primary, secondary, and tertiary oil recovery methods) and unconventional reservoirs, rate and pressure transient analyses, economic modeling and assessment, and technical computing.

He is proficient in various economic evaluation software packages and other analytics and statistical applications.

Alvaro Betancourt earned a bachelor’s degree from the National Polytechnic School of Ecuador in 2012 and a master’s degree from Texas A&M University in 2017, both in petroleum engineering. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
